Como decir la verdad: Una leyenda que nos enseña...

Una sabia y conocida anécdota árabe dice que en una ocasión, un Sultán soñó que había perdido todos los dientes. Después de despertar, mandó a llamar a un Adivino para que interpretase su sueño.

-¡Que desgracia Mi Señor! - exclamó el Adivino - Cada diente caído representa la pérdida de un pariente de Vuestra Majestad.

- ¡Que insolencia! - gritó el Sultán enfurecido - ¿Como te atreves a decirme semejante cosa? ¡Fuera de aquí!

Llamó a su guardia y ordenó que le dieran cien latigazos.
Mas tarde ordenó que le trajesen a otro Adivino y le contó lo que había soñado.

Éste, después de escuchar al Sultán con atención, le dijo:

-¡Señor! Gran felicidad os ha sido reservada. El sueño significa que sobreviviréis a todos vuestros parientes.

Se iluminó el semblante del Sultán con una gran sonrisa y ordenó le dieran cien monedas de oro.

Cuando éste salía del palacio, uno de los cortesanos le dijo admirado:

- ¡No es posible!, la interpretación que habéis hecho de los sueños es la misma que el primer Adivino. No entiendo porque al primero le pagó con cien latigazos y a ti con cien monedas de oro.

-Recuerda bien amigo mío - respondió el segundo Adivino - que todo depende de la forma en el decir, uno de los grandes desafíos de la humanidad es aprender el arte de comunicarse. De la comunicación depende, muchas veces, la felicidad o la desgracia, la paz o la guerra. Que la verdad debe ser dicha en cualquier situación, de esto no cabe duda, mas la forma como debe ser comunicada es lo que provoca en algunos casos, grandes problemas.

La verdad puede compararse con una piedra preciosa. Si la lanzamos contra el rostro de alguien, puede herir, pero si la envolvemos en un delicado embalaje y la ofrecemos con ternura ciertamente será aceptada con agrado.



How to tell the truth: A legend that teaches us ...
A wise and Arabic known anecdote says that on one occasion, a Sultan dreamed that he had lost all his teeth. After waking, he sent for a soothsayer to interpret his dream.

-Unfortunately my Lord! - exclaimed the soothsayer - Each tooth that you loose represent a relative’s loss of your Majesty.

- What insolence! - Shouted the enraged Sultan - How dare you say such a thing? Out of here!

He called his guards and ordered them to give him one hundred lashes.
Later he ordered to bring another soothsayer and told him about his dream.

This soothsayer after listening carefully to the Sultan, said:

-Lord! Great happiness is waiting for you. The dream means that you will out live all your relatives.

The face of the Sultan lit up with a smile and he ordered to give him a hundred gold coins.

When he was leaving the palace, one of the courtiers said in admiration:

-It is not possible!, The interpretation of dreams that you have done is the same as the first soothsayer. I do not understand why the first was paid with a hundred lashes and you were paid with a hundred gold coins.

-Remember good friend - said second soothsayer - it all depends on the way you say it, one of the greatest challenges in humanity is to learn the art of communicating. On communication depends sometimes, happiness or misery, peace or war. The truth must be told in any situation, no doubt about this, but the way it should be told causes in some cases problems.

The truth can be compared with a precious stone. If you throw it against someone's face, it can hurt, but if you wrap it in a delicate package and gently offer it, it will certainly be accepted with pleasure.
